King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Integrated Rural Transport Plan King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality,
King Sabata Dalindyebo, Eastern Cape, South Africa
COMPLETION DATE: ongoing
CLIENT: KSD Local Municipality and the DBSA
The Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) aims to support development initiatives in South Africa in the realisation that infrastructure delivery has broader socio-economic implications. One such initiative is the KSD IRTP, which seeks to plan and deliver integrated, intelligent and sustainable rural access systems for the KSD Local Municipality.
The team, led by Safiri Transport Planners, is preparing a plan which is broad in scope, covering the whole sphere of transportation, from village level to bulk freight transportation (including transport services), and considers infrastructure and social and economic factors holistically to address accessibility constraints, and propose intregrated rural access interventions.
CTS’ contribution focuses on spatial planning and the efficiency, accessibility and hierarchy of the rural transport system, as well as the existing and potential role of small towns and villages in the provision of goods and services for the rural population.
